Windhoek Councillor Dr. Job Amupanda is a prominent figure in the fields of political science, history, and activism. Born on 28 August 1987 at Omaalala village in Oshikoto Region, Dr. Amupanda served as Windhoek Mayor from 2020 to 2021.Dr. Amupanda embarked on a journey of intellectual growth and social impact, pursuing higher education at the University of Namibia and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. In 2020, he attained his Doctoral of Philosophy in Political Studies (PhD). With a remarkable tenure of 10 years in the academic world, Dr. Amupanda has displayed a passion for teaching and research. His scholarly pursuits have resulted in over 30 publications, with more than 15 of these works published in internationally accredited peer-reviewed academic journals. Dr. Amupanda currently works as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Namibia.

 

Dr. Amupanda’s academic prowess and potential as a transformative leader were recognized when he was selected as the African Election Fellow for the American Council for Young Political Leaders in 2016. This prestigious fellowship provided him with invaluable opportunities to engage with political leaders and thinkers from diverse backgrounds. Beyond his contributions to academia, Dr. Amupanda is renowned for his active involvement in advocating for social justice in Namibia. He has lent his expertise and insights to several decision-making bodies of public entities, making a significant impact on progressive policies. His commitment to public service is evident through his current role as a councillor on the Municipal Council of Windhoek, where he continues to contribute actively to the development and progress of the city by tabling several motions aimed at improving operations and service delivery.

 

During the period from 2013 to 2017, he served as both a member and chairperson of the Qualifications Committee of the Namibia Qualifications Authority, playing a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s education system. Additionally, he served as a member of the Evaluations Committee of the National Heritage Council during the same period, working to preserve and promote Namibia’s rich cultural heritage, amongst other leadership and governance roles.

 

Dr. Amupanda also actively contributes to Namibia’s local governance as he represents the Windhoek Council as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN) since April 2022.
