Windhoek Councilor, Bernardus Araeb was born and spent most of his childhood in Gobabis in Omaheke region. He enjoys watching any sport to relax and has an interest in small-stock farming and politics.
The causes closest to his heart are animal welfare, violence against women, and human rights.
Cllr Araeb said he is inspired by Sydney Brenner, a Nobel Laureate, because he contributed to the human understanding of genetics.
Cllr Araeb is currently studying towards a Bachelor in Business Administration. He does not have a job outside of Council work at the moment, but has previously worked as a temporary teacher, worked for the Namibian Police Force, and as a repatriation Coordinator at Osire Refugee Camp.
Cllr Araeb brings the best skill set of critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and customer service skills.
For this Council term, Cllr Araeb wants to focus on crime reduction in the City, Health and Safety for all residents, supporting any development strategy plans, and Housing reduction.
According to him, the greatest challenge facing Windhoek is managing the budgetary demands of decreased revenues, increased service demands and the costs of unfunded state and federal mandates, shortage of resources and budgetary constraints, non-funding of capital projects by Central Government, housing, unemployment, crime, scarcity of land, the influx of economic migrants to the City.
